Some helpful troubleshooting tips to address MD-11 instability issues which include CTD (Crash To Desktop) and failure to initialize.

Clear the Work Folder

Sometimes a purge of the Work folder will allow the aircraft to reinitialize. Although the aircraft may have installed successfully there are "oddities" in the way it is behaving (or not behaving).

Navigate to the appropriate Work folder location based on sim version and client version

  • Flight Simulator 2020 (Microsoft Store)

%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\packages\tfdidesign-aircraft-md11\work

  • Flight Simulator 2020 (Steam)

%appdata%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\tfdidesign-aircraft-md11\work

  • Flight Simulator 2024 (Microsoft Store)

%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\WASM\MSFS2024\tfdidesign-aircraft-md11\work

  •     Flight Simulator 2024 (Steam)

%appdata%\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\WASM\MSFS2024\tfdidesign-aircraft-md11\work

Delete the entire work folder inside the tfdesign-aircraft-md11 folder

Delete Cloud Save

If you notice general sim instability, especially with a CTD, you can try deleting the active Cloud Save for the sim. Microsoft has prepared a helpful document located here - https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/17060350083612-How-to-delete-a-cloud-save-to-fix-some-loading-or-crashing-issues-Crashing-on-the-identity-screen-spawning-inside-buildings

Be Advised - Deleting a Cloud Save will purge all of your in-sim control bindings/mappings.

After Purging the Work Folder

The aircraft will be perform a full reinitialization, which will be treated like the first run after an installation, therefore expect longer than normal load times of the aircraft. This is only for the first run.

You will need to reinstall the AIRAC nav database if you pay for Navigraph data. This must be done after the first reinitialization.
