At TFDi Design, our goal is to ensure you have a seamless experience with the MD-11. When investigating unexpected behavior, crashes, or graphical issues, the first and most crucial step is isolating the aircraft from other third-party add-ons by testing with a "clean" Community folder.

Why Mod Conflicts Happen

While standard aircraft, sceneries, and liveries rarely cause problems, system modifications are often the biggest offenders. Mods that alter cockpit gauges, lighting, atmosphere, sound, or native simulator variables can easily conflict with the MD-11's complex custom systems.

Crucially, Microsoft Flight Simulator activates or calls upon mods during the initial load, even if that specific product isn't currently in use. This means a mod designed for an entirely different aircraft can cause a conflict with the MD-11. Furthermore, out-of-date mods are particularly problematic.

How to Create a Clean Community Folder

Locate Your Community Folder

Navigate to your Microsoft Flight Simulator Community folder. The exact path depends on whether you purchased the simulator through the Microsoft Store or Steam.

Rename the Existing Folder

Right-click the Community folder and rename it to something like Community_Backup . This safely preserves all of your existing add-ons without deleting anything.

For customers on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, you will also have a Community2024 folder. The MD-11 may also be in that folder. For the purposes of testing, you can leave the MD-11 there, but please make sure that nothing else is in the Community2024 folder.

Create a New Community Folder

In that exact same directory, create a new, empty folder and name it Community . Install the TFDi Design MD-11 Place only the TFDi Design MD-11 and any official TFDi liveries into this new Community folder.

For customers on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, if you have the MD-11 installed into the Community2024 folder you can leave it there, but please make sure nothing else is in that folder.

Test the Simulator

Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator, load into a flight with the MD-11, and test to see if the issue persists.

Managing Add-ons

Efficiently Loading hundreds of mods for every single flight complicates stability and troubleshooting tremendously. To avoid this, we highly recommend only enabling the specific mods you need for a given session. Many of our customers successfully use MSFS Addon Linker , a popular freeware tool that allows you to turn mods on and off with a simple graphical interface, without manually moving files.

Note: MSFS Addon Linker is a third-party tool and is not officially endorsed or supported by TFDi Design. You can see a breakdown of how the tool works here.

TFDi Design Support Policy

We love the creativity and customization that third-party mods bring to the simulator. However, our core promise is that our product works flawlessly with the vanilla simulator and the official liveries hosted on our website. We guarantee that baseline with 100% effectiveness.

Any functionality beyond that, including evaluating, maintaining, and triaging conflicts with other third-party modifications, remains the responsibility of the customer. One of the first triage steps you'll be asked to do when a reporting a problem with the MD-11 is to verify that only the MD-11 is installed into the Community folder.
